Miami Heat mascot attends hospital after McGregor stunt
Conor McGregor's publicity stunt had a painful ending for the man inside the Miami Heat mascot who had to attend hospital after his clash with the former UFC champion.
The Heat said Saturday that the employee, who was not identified, received pain medication and was resting at home after he was struck twice by McGregor during a third-quarter stoppage of Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Denver Nuggets.
In a fighter's robe and oversized gloves, Burnie was swiftly knocked
to the ground by McGregor's left hook. While Burnie remained on the
floor, McGregor proceeded to land a straight punch on the mascot's
headgear.
The Irish star then tried to "spray" the mascot with a pain-relief product, in a promotional gimmick, while several members of the Heat's in-game promotional team dragged Burnie off the court.
Aaron Gordon scored 27 points and Nikola Jokic added 23 as the Nuggets beat the Heat 108-95 to take a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals and move within a game of a first title.
McGregor hasn't fought since injuring his left leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. His last win came in January 2020.
