Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, disclosed on Friday that both he and the immediate past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, were summoned by President Bola Tinubu to discuss the ongoing demolition in the state.
Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), revealed that Ganduje, during his tenure as governor, forced him to leave Kano State for a period of three and a half years.
Speaking to State House correspondents, Kwankwaso alleged that most of the demolished buildings were unlawfully acquired by the Ganduje administration. He further mentioned that President Tinubu was astonished when he was informed about the true circumstances that led to the current demolition.
When asked about his satisfaction with the president's intervention, Kwankwaso responded, "The President was shocked. Aren't you shocked that someone would sell a university? Aren't you shocked that he demolished the only university? Daula Hotel, for those of you in Kano, you know the old Daula, he demolished it, and that is a faculty under the University of Science and Technology. He demolished that one. Aren't you shocked?"
Kwankwaso revealed that the president was genuinely taken aback and had personally sent someone to verify the information. He also mentioned the demolition of the Triumph newspaper house and the subsequent establishment of shops in its place.
According to Kwankwaso, under Governor Abba Yusuf's leadership, his party is simply fulfilling its campaign promises to demolish such structures.
On the subject of rumors regarding a potential ministerial position in the Tinubu administration, Kwankwaso acknowledged ongoing discussions but dismissed speculations of defecting to the ruling party. He emphasized that Tinubu was primarily focused on fostering a government of national unity. Kwankwaso described Ganduje as a puppet whom he had appointed as his Special Adviser and later as his deputy while he himself served as governor.
